Wallsocket Album Review (2025)

Artist Overview

Underscores, the creative alias of April Harper Grey, is a genre-defying musician and producer whose sound fuses hyperpop, rock, folk and more with sharp narrative ambition. Her 2023 album Wallsocket channels this eclecticism into a cohesive concept-world: set in the fictional town of Wallsocket, Michigan, it explores themes of class, identity, aesthetics and small-town unease through immersive production and storytelling.

Wallsocket ARG + Geek Out

In the lead-up to the release of Wallsocket, Underscores built a fictional world around a small town called Wallsocket, Michigan. This world wasn’t just background fluff, it was brought to life via multiple interactive web-elements: an “official” town website, a forum for local mothers (“Moms of Wallsocket”), a pizza restaurant website tied to merch and codes, and other fragments that fans could discover and piece together.
Some of the puzzles included hidden URLs, phone numbers, codes found on pizza boxes handed out at tour shows, and “town reports” that unlocked unreleased music or lore details.

You can access the wallsocket arg websites listed here, I love ARGS!!!!!

Each song is basically in a different perspective from the townspeople of wallsocket. You learn more about their personal lives and the events within the town. I love meta story telling so this addition to the album is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
